Noodler’s also offers the widest variety of ‘bulletproof’ ink, colors that won’t fade in UV light, and can withstand water, bleach, ammonia, and still show up strong. ![]() Almost every Noodler’s color comes in a 90mL bottle for $12.50, meaning you get a fantastic value for your money. He prides on running “the smallest ink company in the world with the largest color selection”, and he really does live up to that. Noodler’s offers without a doubt the widest variety of colors, at some of the best prices you’ll find. All Noodler’s inks are made by him, at his workshop in southern Massachusetts. Noodler’s Ink is the brainchild of pen enthusiast/history buff/chemist Nathan Tardif, and he’s actually the only guy running the show. Lots of ink, lots of writing to do!Īnyway, this is the first Noodler’s ink I’ve reviewed for this series, so I guess I’ll start with a brief look at that company. Your professors or bosses will likely find this a little more professional than the Infra-Red from last time. It’s right at the intersection of fun colors and office friendly colors. This ink is great for the person who wants to make a statement in the most professional way possible. These inks are also very vintage pen friendly, and I imagine pairing this with an ebonite pen or something of that sort, would lead to a great combination. I imagine this ink would work very well in a stub italic nib, or in a flex pen. Using my black Parker Urban made for a very nice combination, very classic and traditional. Remember, you’re paying for decades of experience and the insane level of craftsmanship that De Atramentis offers. You only get 35mL of ink in a bottle, but at $12.95, this ink is still fairly affordable. Very nice hand-blown glass, and a simple yet eye-catching label. Just the right balance between the drier side that allows for shading and the wetter end that allows the boldness of the color to properly stick out. In the bottle, it resembles a black coffee, or a strong black tea. The ink shades very well, ranging from a lighter, beige-brown to a deeper, redder, brown. Combining this with the slightly tan paper of my Moleskine journal gives off a very classic, classy vibe. There’s a nice red tint, a throwback to inks and photos of the past. This particular shade is a very lovely brown, which is not something I expected to say. The inks come in a huge variety of shades, properties, and recipes, featuring some long-lost vintage formulas. Franz-Josef Jansen of Hachenburg, Germany, makes all their ink by hand, as he has done for over 20 years.
